It started on the shop floor
Giftkompas wasn't born behind a desk — it was born on the shop floor. We're a small group that met working in retail, and together we've spent plenty of years among the shelves. One of us stood behind the counter of an electronics shop, explaining the difference between two pairs of headphones for the thousandth time. Another advised at the perfume counter and smelled every new scent that arrived. Someone else helped parents in the toy shop with the eternal question: ‘so what do I actually buy?’
What struck us over the years: almost everyone asks the same things. Is it worth the money? Will it last? Does it really suit the person I'm buying it for? And above all — am I overpaying? By the end of a busy Saturday we'd answered those questions a hundred times. And we kept seeing people leave with the wrong, or too expensive, gift — simply because no one took the time to explain it honestly.
Why we do this in our spare time
These days not all of us still work in a shop, but giving advice is in our blood. On evenings and weekends we get together to dig into products: laying specs side by side, wading through hundreds of reviews, tracking prices and — where we can — getting hands-on. No marketing spin, just the level-headed view of someone who has watched a product cross the counter a hundred times.
That's why Giftkompas isn't a big media company. It's a passion project by people with a soft spot for good gifts and a healthy allergy to nonsense. That's exactly what keeps us honest: we have no sales quotas to hit and no brand to please. The only thing that matters is that you make the right choice with confidence.
